Whichever direction you head your never far away from a beach. Fuerteventura is an island for relaxing and soaking up the sun unless your into watersports, then it's full on surfing heaven!
The main town of Corralejo is a great place to find a bar or cafe and a spot in the shade to sit and watch the day go by. In the old part of town you can sit around the harbour and watch the fishing boats bobbing up and down as the waves gently lap up against the sand. There are boat trips, fishing trips, jet ski's, diving and surf schools waiting for you to register your interest.
As the sun sets the town starts to come to life, there's music in the square where you can relax and enjoy a nice meal and drinks after a hard day in the sun. Everything moves at a nice relaxing pace and there is little need to be in a hurry. Take a stroll along the seafront and grab a coffee or a cocktail at one of the quaint bars & cafe's and enjoy a peaceful evening overlooking the island of Lobos. It's nightlife without the hustle, bustle and over exuberance.
Head for the sand dunes to find your own private spot on the beach. The sea breeze helps to control the intensity of the heat and there's plenty of clear blue ocean to cool down in. If watersports are your thing then head to flag beach surf centre where you can take lessons or just watch the many activities they offer including Board Surfing, Wind Surfing, Kite Surfing and Body Boarding.
If you have kids then a great place to spend some time is Acua Water Park where you can enjoy the many water slides and there's also a small zoo. Those after a calmer sport can try the "Mirador De Lobos" 9 hole golf course.
El Cotillo is a small rustic little fishing village situated on the northwest corner of Fuerteventura. El Cotillo is a very peaceful place which offers some good restaurants, bars, a few shops and some fabulous beaches.
At the north of the town there are the quiet calm and tranquil lagoons which are ideally suited to those with smaller children. It's a fantastic place were younger ones can play without the worry of being overpowered by the waves that are present on the other beaches.
To the south of the town there are a number of tracks which lead towards the cliffs. Here you will find Playa del Castillo, one of the nicest beaches in the region and a great place for surfers of all kinds. Fear not, it is a huge beach and there's plenty of room for everyone to enjoy the steely blue sky, dark blue ocean and fine white sand.
